Anniversary Specials & Open Air at Lentos (21 April)

To mark the festival anniversary, we will also present two highlights from the early years of CROSSING EUROPE on the big screen again as Anniversary Pic[k]s. One of them as a free-entry festival kick-off during an open-air screening at Lentos Kunstmuseum on the Donaulände on April 21.

Opening Films 2023

CROSSING EUROPE 2023 will once again open with four films that are a representative cross-section of this year’s festival program and, with their thematic and artistic diversity, stand for the richness of European cinema.

Nightline 2023

CROSSING EUROPE will celebrate its 20th anniversary til late at night: At the Nightline on the OK Deck, festival audiences and film guests from all over Europe gather on the dancefloor, with selected live acts and DJs setting the right mood on five evenings. The music program was curated once again by Samira Saad and Christian Haselmayr. From April 26 to 30, the Nightline Bar on the OK Deck will be open already from 8 p.m. Entry is free.

Architecture and Society: Pretty Ugly

Under the title Pretty Ugly, this year’s program section Architecture and Society, curated by Lotte Schreiber, examines the hard-to-determine notion of beauty through the examples of four feature-length and two short documentaries.

Golden Bag Window Display Contest 2023

The GOLDEN BAG store window contest is entering the next round: stores in Linz are invited to lend the city center a festival flair with original window display decorations based on the motto "Let's party! Crossing Europe turns 20!". The deadline for entries is April 7, and there are great prizes to be won.

Working Worlds 2023: Art Is but a Job

This year the program section Working Worlds is titled Art Is but a Job and focuses on the work life of artists, drawing a great line from the art scene to award-winning cuisine, immersing itself into the ordinary everyday lives of artists between the canvas and the brush, knife and plate.

YAAAS! Competition & School Screenings

With the YAAAS! Youth Program CROSSING EUROPE once again plans to actively fill a young audience with enthusiasm for cinema. For the YAAAS! Competition, the YAAAS! Young Programmers have selected seven feature films that are highly diverse with regard to content and artistry, three of which are presented in this article.

Cinema Next Europe Club 2023

Apply until 12 March! The Cinema Next Europe Club intends to give young filmmakers the possibility to take part in the film festival and to be able to gather specific inputs, as well as being able to enter into a direct exchange with other young filmmakers.

MIOB | Moving Images – Open Borders

CROSSING EUROPE strives to promote the cultural and solidary European idea not just with audiences and film guests in Linz, but in addition, is also substantially involved in the collaboration of film festivals throughout Europe. In 2017, the festival network MIOB | Moving Images – Open Borders was initiated for this purpose by CROSSING EUROPE and now comprises seven film festivals with a European program orientation.

Tribute 2023: Angeliki Papoulia (GR)

YAAAS! Young Programmers 2023
