Award Winners 2023

On Sunday, the Festival Awards of the 20th festival edition were given out in the Ursulinensaal, Miriam Hie led through the atmospheric evening. Entries from the Competition Fiction, Competition Documentary, Competition Local Artists and YAAAS! Competition were awarded with cash and non-cash prizes worth € 26,500, and the MIOB New Vision Award 2023 (€ 3000) was also presented.

20th Crossing Europe: Positive Résumé of the Festival Anniversary

The 20th Crossing Europe Film Festival can be considered a complete success. From April 26 to May 1, Austria’s third-largest film festival enabled the audience to take a cinematic journey from Greenland to the Black Sea in 139 feature, documentary and short films from 45 countries.

APOLONIA, APOLONIA by Lea Glob is a fascinating portrait of the painter Apolonia Sokol, who is trying to find her place in the art world (18:30, City 2, with Sokol present). In the documentary SYNDROM HAMLETA | THE HAMLET SYNDROME, five young Ukrainians work through their personal traumas during rehearsals for "Hamlet" (18:30, Movie 2, with director Elwira Niewiera in attendance).

Under the motto "Europe, we need to talk!" we welcome around 120 film guests from all over Europe to Linz for the 20th edition of the festival. They will not only present their current films, but also provide exciting insights into their work in Q&As and talk events. 

Must-Sees on our Opening Day

On the opening day, this year's Tribute guest, actress Angeliki Papoulia, shines in the opening film A BLAST by Syllas Tzoumerkas (20:15, Movie 1, in the presence of Papoulia and Tzoumerkas). Already at 16:15 (Central) we show the documentary LE FAVOLOSE | THE FABULOUS ONES, a cinematic ode to a self-determined life. 

Festival Juries 2023

We are happy to announce that a total of 14 jury members will be reviewing the competition films in Linz. There they will decide on the winning films in the competition sections Competition Fiction, Competition Documentary, and Competition Local Artists. The entries in the competition section YAAAS! Competition will be judged by the YAAAS! Youth Jury.

The film program of the 20th edition of CROSSING EUROPE presents filmmaking from all over Europe. For six days, 139 current feature films and documentaries from 45 countries are waiting to be discovered, with highlights of the festival season, innovative auteur cinema and regional works. In addition, CROSSING EUROPE would like to invite you to think of Europe as a democratic, diverse, open, peaceful and solidary place in the social space of cinema - also far beyond EU borders.
