A Thief's Daughter
Greta Fernández ist eine Entdeckung. In Belén Funes' starkem Debüt gibt sie gibt sie an der Seite ihres in Spanien berühmten Vaters Eduard Fernández die Titelheldin Sara. Sara musste früh erwachsen werden, ist eine „street-smarte“ Jungmutter auf der untersten Stufe der sozialen Leiter und kämpft nun um das Sorgerecht für ihren 7-jährigen Halbbruder – da kehrt der Padrone nach Barcelona zurück. Sara has been alone all her life. She’s 22, has a baby, and wants to form a normal family with her young brother and the father of her child. Her own father, Manuel, decides to come back into their lives after years of absence and his release from prison. Sara knows he’s the main obstacle to her plans and she makes a difficult decision: to distance him from herself and her brother. Director's Biography
Belén Funes: Belén Funes, born in Barcelona in 1984, studied at the Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalunya and at the San Antonio de los Baños Film School before starting to work in the film industry. Isabel Coixet produced her first short film, “Sara a la fuga”(2015), which landed her a Goya nomination. “A Thief's Daughter”, taking its inspiration from “Sara a la fuga”, is her feature debut.
