The Forgotten
Mühevoll gestaltet sich das Leben für die Menschen von Luhansk, gelegen in einer jener Regionen der Ukraine, die unter der Kontrolle prorussischer Separatist*innen stehen. Auch eine junge Lehrerin spürt die Auswirkungen im Alltag, die von Internetausfall bis hin zur Willkür der Soldateska reichen. Als sie sich für einen jungen Mann einsetzt, der wegen des Hissens der ukrainischen Flagge verhaftet wird, ahnt sie nicht, dass sie zwischen die Fronten gerät. Ihr individuelles Schicksal wird dabei zur Parabel für einen brutalen Konflikt, der immer noch mitten in Europa andauert. (Jörg Schiffauer)
Nina is 30 and a Ukrainian language teacher. She lives in Luhansk, a city in eastern Ukraine, in territory occupied by pro-Russian separatists. She cannot leave the city, but neither can she continue teaching Ukrainian. She is forced to go to retraining courses for teaching Russian instead. One day she crosses paths with 17-year-old Andriy who was orphaned in the aftermath of the war. He places the Ukrainian flag on the school roof and winds up in the hands of the police. Living in a world of injustice, Nina realizes that Andriy could face long jail time. She decides to act. (Warsaw Film Festival)
Director's Biography
Daria Onyshchenko: Daria Onyshchenko is a Ukrainian film director and writer, born in 1983 and living in Germany. She graduated from the University of Television and Film in Munich. Her first feature film, “Eastalgia” (2014), received many awards at international festivals. “The Forgotten” premiered at Warsaw Film Festival and received a Special Jury Mention.
