Take Me Somewhere Nice
Der Titel legt es nahe: Schön soll es sein, das Leben – wie das im Detail aussehen soll, ist der jungen Alma jedoch noch nicht so ganz klar. In ungewöhnlichen Kameraeinstellungen und zeitgenössischer Foto-Ästhetik begleiten wir sie auf ihrer Reise nach und durch Bosnien, wo sie, bald mit nicht mehr als dem Smartphone ausgerüstet, ihren sterbenden Vater ein letztes Mal besuchen will. Cousin Emir und dessen Kumpel Denis sind Alma auf ihrer Sinnsuche mal mehr und mal weniger hilfreich. (Jakob Dibold)
Alma is in between everything: raised in the Netherlands by Bosnian parents, no longer a girl, but not really a woman yet. She hardly knows her father, but when he is admitted to a Bosnian hospital she decides to visit him one last time. This starts a journey with an unknown destination as Alma discovers herself and her country of origin.§Ena Sendijarević often refers to Jim Jarmusch as an example. Unusual camera angles and a minimalist plot introduce us to the mindset of a teen to whom everything is new and nothing is strange. (International Film Festival Rotterdam)
Director's Biography
Ena Sendijarević: Ena Sendijarević, born in Bosnia in 1987, studied media and culture at the University of Amsterdam and was subsequently educated at the Dutch Film Academy, also in Amsterdam. "Import" (2016) was her first project after graduating. The short film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in Quinzaine des Réalisateurs. "Take Me Somewhere Nice" had its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2019.
