Als sie Apolonia Sokol zum ersten Mal traf, war Lea Glob tief beeindruckt. 2009 begann sie mit der Arbeit an diesem faszinierenden Porträt einer jungen Frau, die versucht, ihren Platz in der Kunstwelt zu finden. Geboren in einem Pariser Untergrundtheater, aufgewachsen in einer Künstlergemeinschaft, Studium an der Beaux-Arts de Paris. Ein (Bohème-)Leben wie aus dem Bilderbuch. Apolonia ist von ihrem Talent überzeugt, aber ihr Weg ist nicht immer einfach. Und das Leben ist kein Bilderbuch; eine der vielen Lektionen, die sie lernt, ist, dass Malerinnen mehr Opfer bringen und größere Hindernisse überwinden müssen als ihre männlichen Kollegen. Lea Glob has followed the Danish-French artist Apolonia Sokol over 13 years. The result is an extraordinarily up-close and personal film that is both a portrait of the life of a unique artist and of the budding friendship and intimacy between two women over a (very) long and formative period in their lives. The charismatic Sokol was almost born to be an artist. The child of a French father and a Polish mother, she was born in a theatre in Paris and grew up in the city’s rambunctious bohemian milieu before taking up painting and training as an artist herself.
