Press Release #2/26
Festival Trailer 2026 | Competition Local Artists: First Feature-Length Film Titles | 7th Cinema Next Europe Club | Open Call: MIOB Lab of Cultural, Creative and Festival Journalism
02.03.2026 // Festival Trailer 2026: ODRŽATI – online today
28 April to 3 May 2026 will see Linz becoming a hub of European cinema for the 23rd time. In this press release, we are presenting this year’s festival trailer, created by artists Amanda Burzić and Dominik Galleya. Burzić operates between fine art and experimental film, while Galleya creates works in narrative and pop-cultural visual worlds. They have previously been represented in the Competition Local Artists with several of their works, both as a directing duo and in collaboration with other artists.
Local Artists Competition: First Feature-Length Film Titles
Each year, the Competition Local Artists provides a stage for the creativity and versatility of filmmakers in and from Upper Austria. In this press release, we are presenting the first portion of the feature film titles.
The essayist documentary HERZBLUTWIESE STADTWERKSTATT will be shown for the first time in Austria: Claudia Dworschak and Tanja Brandmayr examine the history of the city of Linz’s oldest autonomous arts and culture space from a feminist perspective and tell a story about the transformation of art and society that extends far beyond the city’s limits.
The central site of each and every film festival is the starting point of the latest work by Bernhard Sallmann. CINEMA, also presented in Austria for the first time, is an in-depth examination of the enticing space that is the big screen: Eleven people tell about their own personal relationship with cinema.
Employing different approaches, two remarkable works deal with origin, identity, and family: While the memories of her mother, who is slipping into dementia, begin to fade, DAYS YET UNKNOWN (Max Ophüls Award for Best Documentary, January 2026) has director Jola Wieczorek tracing her family’s escape from Poland to Austria in the 1980s. Also embarking on a path through the past is Tolga Karaaslan in BABA, WHAT’S YOUR PLAN?. His father, Celal, is no longer able to work due to a grave disease and is faced with the question of what he should do now. As he is recounting and reminiscing, his son and hand-held camera accompany him to the sites of his life’s story in Türkiye and Austria.
Cinema Next Europe Club: Apply until 27 March!
For the seventh time, Cinema Next, an Austrian initiative promoting young filmmakers, and Crossing Europe are inviting participants to the Cinema Next Europe Club, which will take place from 28 April to 2 May as part of the 23rd edition of the festival. The program is aimed at talented filmmakers from Austria who are working on their first feature film project and can benefit from the festival program and exchanges with other young filmmakers. The program includes presentations of their own projects, participation in industry events, and input sessions with selected European film professionals.
Details about the Cinema Next Europe Club can be found on the Cinema Next website. The application deadline is 27 March 2026.
Open Call: MIOB Lab of Cultural, Creative and Festival Journalism
The European festival network MIOB is calling for applications for the fifth edition of the LAB OF CULTURAL, CREATIVE AND FESTIVAL JOURNALISM, which will take place for the first time at Crossing Europe this year. The Lab is being organized in cooperation with Cineuropa, one of the leading platforms for European cinema. Under the guidance of experienced Serbian journalist, critic, and curator Vladan Petkovic, the six participants at Crossing Europe will gain first-hand insights into international film journalism. MIOB and Crossing Europe are looking for 6 young Europeans eager to learn journalistic techniques focused on the cultural sector — especially in cinema! Applications are open until 15 March 2026.
The elaborate press release, logo, festival motif and press photos are available as usual on our website.
